At Buckley Park College, we empower our students to take greater responsibility for their own learning. We anticipate that all students will develop the skills and confidence to become life-long learners as they prepare for a successful and prosperous life in whichever pathway they choose. Student Voice, Agency and Leadership sits at the heart of our ‘Build Your Wings’ philosophy
Students provide and respond to feedback regarding their learning. Students use a variety of ways to communicate with their peers and their teachers to discuss learning progress and strategies to improve. Students communicate with each other about their learning and remain socially connected. For learning to occur, strong peer-to-peer and student-teacher relationships must be present.
Students have greater responsibility over what and how they learn. Students set their own learning goals, monitor and track their progress. Students know what they need to do in order to be successful by choosing from a variety of strategies, techniques, resources and skills which are applied to learning tasks.
Students drive continuous improvement across the College through a variety of leadership, voice and agency avenues. At Buckley Park College, there are many opportunities for leadership responsibilities: school captains, house leaders, student voice leaders, extra-curricular leaders, (just to name a few). However, we take pride in that ‘all’ students are considered leaders as we take a proactive approach to empowering students to be Upstanders. Our student leaders are central to our approach in providing peer-mentoring and community engagement programs.
Student Leaders in action
Our students play a pivotal role in making school-wide decisions. A recent uniform review was largely driven by a dedicated student uniform review panel.
