Launching in 2026

Our STEAM Program will be open to Year 7 students who are passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics to solve real world problems.

Our STEAM program aims to prepare young people for a continually changing world with jobs that may not even exist yet. Our best chance for doing this is to inspire our future leaders in STEAM to be deeply reflective and curious about problem solving. To enable this style of learning, our STEAM program adopts a Thinking Classroom pedagogical approach which promotes critical thinking and student agency. Our STEAM Academy promotes Innovation, Collaboration, Curiosity and Community.

STEAM Academy Structure

Buckley Park College is proud to offer its community a point of difference by providing a select-entry stream of education for students who are passionate about: Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM). The STEAM Academy will provide families with options for accelerated learning to increase academic achievement and build skills for future career pathways.

Buckley Park College is the only school in the zone offering a comprehensive academy approach. Other schools offer STEAM-based subjects, however, it is not common to have a holistic STEAM Academy approach.

While having their own exclusive academy within the college, students remain connected to the rest of their cohort with extra-curricular opportunities: inter-school sport, music, school theatre production, camps, excursions.

The STEAM Academy will have dedicated classes and resources where the focus for teaching will be on:

  • Solving real-word problems

  • Developing employability skills

  • Critical thinking

Guiding principles will drive the STEAM Academy:

  • Innovation

  • Collaboration

  • Curiosity

  • Community

Design is a significant part of the engineering process. We acknowledge and promote the importance of graphic design using Computer Aided Design, (CAD) when creating innovative solutions to everyday problems. The use of Adobe Suite for graphic design which enables students to creatively communicate and educate the community of solutions to real-world problems is vital. We know that these transferrable skills offer graduates a competitive advantage when applying for jobs post schooling and/or entry requirements into tertiary education settings.

Students will meet the minimum requirements as outlined in the Year 7 - 10 Victorian Curriculum 2.0 achievement standards. Students will be assessed against the standards in: Science, Digital Technology, English, Art, Humanities and Mathematics. Additionally, students will engage in an exclusive STEAM subject: "Future Thinkers", where students will collaborate with each other and industry using the latest technologies to solve real world issues.

NOTE: LOTE Will be replaced with Coding and Computational Programming Languages

Being part of the STEAM Academy, once selected is something to be proud of. The Academy is a four-year journey, and will be structured using the following themes:

At the conclusion of Year 10, students will have completed an accelerated VCE / VET Certified course. They will have an opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in an area of interest.

Students will then transition into the mainstream Year 11 VCE program at the College. Here they will complete a Unit 3 and 4 subject which will contribute towards their final ATAR.

Coding MicroBits

Students learn how to use MicroBits with coding, and making real-world connections.
