We want our STEAM Applicants to be passionate about Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics to help solve real world, everyday problems. Possessing a love of learning through experimentation, resilience in learning and not afraid of failures are essential character traits that we will expect of students in the STEAM Academy. Innovation, Curiosity, Collaboration and Community are what will drive a student's journey throughout the Year 7 - 10 STEAM Academy.

Before applying, we strongly recommend that applicants fully understand what is required and are committed to the academic expectations required as a STEAM Academy student at Buckley Park College.

Students enrolling in year 7 at Buckley Park College will be given an opportunity to apply for a place in the STEAM Academy. Once a student has been accepted into Buckley Park College through the Year 6 to 7 Enrolment process, students will be eligible to complete the Expression of Interest form below. We require input from the student, parents/carers and a previous teacher.

Phase 1:

  • Applicants enrolled at BPC completes an Expression of Interest form (below)
  • Primary school is contacted for a reference
  • Applicant submits evidence of academic performance (NAPLAN Results, School Reports, completes a PAT-R and PAT-Maths diagnostic test)
  • Applicants are shortlisted

Phase 2:

  • Applicant is invited to attend an in-person interview at the college where they demonstrate their:
  • Passion
  • Critical thinking
  • Commitment to the Academy program

Successful Applicants:

  • Applicants will receive written confirmation of being accepted into the STEAM Academy
  • Attend Statewide Transition Day in December with the rest of cohort
  • Booklist

    Acceptance into the STEAM Academy is highly competitive and students are expected to engage in the program throughout the academic year. It is strongly advised that students learn about the program requirements and carefully consider their genuine level of interest and commitment prior to submitting an expression of interest to join. A minimum of one year is required.

    Buckley Park College will have the following expectations for the student to remain in the STEAM Academy:

    • Uphold and model Buckley Park College’s core values of: Aspiration, Kindness, Resilience and Community
    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to active participation in all STEAM Academy projects undertaken in the program
    • Actively participate in all incursions and excursions as required for the projects
    • Students in the STEAM Academy who choose to exit the program will be placed into a mainstream class within the College
