Principal's Report

Term 4 has been marked by the celebration of our Class of 2024, as they completed their final classes of their secondary education journey. We are also very proud of all students sitting their VCAA Examinations, and wish them all the best in their results, due for release on December 12, 2024.

This Term 4 has been marked by the celebration of our Class of 2024, as they completed their final classes of their secondary education journey. To commemorate this significant milestone, they spent their Celebration Day at Fun Fields, where they had the opportunity to bond and create lasting memories together.

It was a truly heartwarming experience to witness the strong bond among our students, reflecting on their positive journey over the past six years at the college, especially on their last day. The day was marked by several significant events: the Year Level Assembly, the College Assembly, and a special breakfast. As a college, we formed an honour guard to wish our Year 12 students well for the future. I want to particularly highlight how proud we are of the 2024 Year 12 cohort for their respectful conduct throughout their final days and weeks.

I am also delighted to see how many students have taken the initiative to seek feedback from their teachers and have actively used college resources to prepare for their external examinations. Through their dedication and efforts, they are well-positioned to achieve their personal best.

I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the teachers for their unwavering commitment in working one-on-one with students to ensure they are prepared for these critical assessments. I also want to acknowledge the entire staff for providing an engaging learning program and creating a caring environment throughout these six years of secondary education.

It was also fantastic to see many Year 12 students from 2025 nominate for leadership roles at the college. It is an honour to announce our 2025 School Captaincy Team:

  • College Captains: Tien TRAN and Raff CAULFIELD
  • College Vice Captains: April KOKKORIS and Zachary AL MOSAWI

I am excited to hear the priorities of our new College Captaincy Team and look forward to working closely with them in the year ahead.

Recent College Events

The college has also been buzzing with activity recently. Our annual Art Show was a resounding success, showcasing the incredible talent of our students in a wide range of creative mediums. It was wonderful to see so many community members come and appreciate their work. I would like to congratulate Celine Kok, the winner of the 2024 Principal Art Acquisition, and Natalia Vescio, the winner of the 'People's Choice' award.

For our Year 10 and 11 students, the Semester Exams are underway, and they will soon engage in their Commencement Program, preparing for the next stage of their education.

Our 2025 Year 7 students also had their first taste of college life as they completed their PAT testing in small groups, allowing us to assess their literacy and numeracy skills to make informed decisions about class groupings.

Additionally, our Year 10-12 Media students enjoyed an inspiring visit to Channel 9 and NEP Australia Studios in Southbank, where they got a firsthand look at how television programs are produced. This excursion ties into their studies on media production.

Our Year 8 students visited the Melbourne Museum for the "Rockumentary" experience, where they learned about the rock cycle and worked in small teams to create their own short films. These films will be compiled to create a class "Rockumentary."

Year 9 students had an impactful visit to the Holocaust Museum, where they personalized history and learned about the stories of Melbourne-based Holocaust survivors. This experience aimed to foster a deep understanding of the importance of remembering history and the power of individual choices.

In the coming weeks, Year 10 and 11 students will embark on their 2025 Commencement Program, with Year 11 students heading to Ormond College for their camp. We are also excited to welcome our 2025 Year 7 students and their families at the upcoming Year 7 Information Night in December.

Planning for 2025

Looking ahead, the 2025 Annual Implementation Plan (AIP) will mark the third year of our strategic work towards the targets and strategies outlined in our Strategic Plan. As a Leadership Team, we will focus on four Key Improvement Strategies:

  1. Support for all students: Provide scaffolding for those who need it, and extend the learning of those who are excelling, particularly in literacy and numeracy.
  2. Strengthen staff knowledge: Enhance teachers’ understanding of the learning needs of each student through deep knowledge of the curriculum and a continuum of learning.
  3. Data-driven teaching: Improve teachers' ability to use data to inform differentiated teaching, ensuring that all students can access the learning they need.
  4. Safe and engaging environment: Continue to strengthen strategies that foster a safe, orderly, and engaging learning environment.

The Leadership Team will work throughout this term to develop detailed actions to support these strategies.

Finally, I want to sincerely thank and acknowledge our 2024 School Captains Leticia Asher and Owen Lam, and Vice Captains Thomas Iozzi and Victor Moissidis for their exceptional advocacy and representation of our students throughout the year. Their leadership has been truly appreciated by both staff and students alike.

‘but why is it hated, I sat in there and grieved?’ 2024

Oil on canvas

Challenged by society's contemporary weaponization of the church, my works hope to enlighten through the themes of love, life and death in order to show the true meaning of the love that people find within the walls of the church. My subject matter depicts firstly a golden toned landscape of a church, paired next to a moody dark image of a girl placing down a candle in hopes to consolidate her grieving. Being part of the Serbian orthodox religious traditions to place a candle down at church to show prayer and love for loved ones who have passed, I've created a personal connection to the communication of grief in my work. It ultimately invites observers to contemplate how they see the church and be able to respect it as a haven for others and a harbour for grief, existence and admiration.
