Works notification: Buckley Street major road and rail disruptions: August-September 2018

Works notification: Buckley Street major road and rail disruptions: August-September 2018

The final major disruption for Buckley Street and the Craigieburn rail line will start in August.

We will be excavating and constructing the road underpass and service roads, undertaking footpath works, rail and signalling works, installing lighting and continuing work on upgrades to pedestrian underpasses.

Once these works are complete, the Buckley Street level crossing will be gone for good. Vehicles will be able to travel through the new road underpass and access local streets using safe, new service roads. Pedestrians will be able to move through the station precinct using the new upgraded underpasses.

While this work is under way, there will be changes to the way pedestrians move around the area. We’ll have customer service officers and traffic controllers on hand to help, so please plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Major road works: Thursday 9 August–Sunday 30 September

From 8pm Thursday 9 August to 6am Sunday 30 September there will be no access to Buckley Street between Mt Alexander Road and Daisy Street, and all adjoining intersections (except Court Street) will be closed.

When possible, the following intersections will be open for local access only:

• Lorraine Street

• Violet Street

• McPhail Street

Major rail works: Friday 24 August–Sunday 9 September

From 8.30pm Friday 24 August to last service Sunday 9 September buses will replace trains on sections of the Craigieburn line.

Information will be made available at stations impacted, and train replacement bus timetables will be available at ptv.vic.gov.au or 1800 800 007 closer to the start of these works.

To help us prepare for these major works, buses will replace trains from 8.30pm until the last service Thursday 9 August. For this disruption, replacement bus services will operate on Mt Alexander Road, and customer service staff will be there to assist passengers. Normal services will resume on Friday 10 August.

Essendon Station underpass upgrades

We are also undertaking upgrades to the central underpass until the end of October, so the way you move through the station will change over the coming months. We’ll do this work in stages so that access to the central underpass will always be maintained from one side.

• Access to Essendon Station platforms will be maintained via the central underpass entry at:

 – Rose Street, from now to Friday 24 August

 – Russell Street, from Friday 24 August to late October

• The northern underpass can be used as an alternative to the central underpass to move between Rose and Russell streets

• The southern underpass remains closed until projection completion

• The pedestrian path at the level crossing will be closed from Thursday 9 August.

Access to local schools

Access to schools will be maintained via signed detours. Information will be provided to schools to share with their networks to help them stay up to date on the detours in place during this closure.

Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.

Parking in Rose Street

Constructing the service roads and undertaking work around the station precinct means there will be impacts to on-street parking along Rose Street. During this time, shoppers are advised that there are an additional 50 two-hour spaces available in the Rose Street commuter car park.

What to expect:

• construction activities and machinery, including piling, concreting and excavators

• increased truck movements

• noise and lighting impacts

• night works

• vegetation removal.

Every effort will be made to complete these works within the scheduled times, however dates and times are subject to change. To check disruptions in the area please visit levelcrossings.vic.gov.au/disruptions
