NASA SPACE CAMP 2019- Applications CLOSE this Friday 23 February

Following on from our successful mission in 2017, Buckley Park College will soon be accepting applications for our next NASA Space Camp to run in Term 1 2019.

This year’s students visited the historic Kennedy Space Centre where they enjoyed a range of educational and engaging activities including:

  • A tour of the launch facilities from where all the Apollo moon missions (Apollo 11 to Apollo 17) and all 135 Space Shuttle missions were launched
  • Two days at the KSC Astronaut Training Experience
  • Time at the spectacular KSC Museum where many historical space icons are on display including The Atlantis Space Shuttle and a Saturn V rocket
  • Lunch with Astronaut Jon McBride who piloted Space Shuttle mission SS35 into orbit
  • The students also observed the launch of the SpaceX re-useable rocket, the latest leap in technology to advance our journey into space.

Whilst in Florida we stayed in Cocoa Beach and Orlando and visited some of the many other attractions Florida has to offer:

  • iFly indoor skydiving where students studied the physics required to achieve free fall at ground level and followed up with a practical experience.
  • An Airboat ride through the wetlands of central Florida observing the unique wildlife (alligators, turtles etc) in its natural environment
  • A behind the scenes tour of Epcot Disney World followed by a day enjoying all the rides and attractions Disney World has to offer
  • An insight into the ride design program at Universal Studios followed by two days exploring everything this amazing Theme park has to offer.

For 2019 we hope to organise tickets to an Orlando Magic NBA game.
